    3.1 Manual Resource Leveling

This functionality is used to resolve the overallocation. In order to level the resource, select the Level Resource Manually from the Tools menu, specify the options and click OK.

Here are the options in the Resource Leveling dialog box.

  • If the Level resource from is checked, AdeptTracker can only resolve the overallocation after the specified date.
  • Look for overallocations on a basis:

  • Click a time period for the sensitivity with which leveling will recognize overallocations. This setting establishes the point at which you want leveling to intervene.

Hour by Hour basis: Level resources where there is more work scheduled for a resource for an hour than can be completed within that hour.

Day by Day basis: Level resources where there is more work scheduled for a resource for a day than can be completed within that day.
  • Leveling can adjust individual assignments on a task : Select this check box to allow leveling to adjust when a resource works on a task independent of the other resources working on the same task. This is a global setting for all tasks and is selected by default. If you want to selectively allow leveling on individual assignments for specific tasks, you can check or uncheck the Leveling can adjust individual assignments on a task in the Resource Leveling page of the Task Properties dialog box. For details, see 3.5 .

  • Do not create splites: Select this check box if you do not want leveling to interrupt tasks by creating splits. This is a global setting for all tasks and is selected by default. If you want to selectively allow leveling on individual assignments for specific tasks, you can check or uncheck the Do not create splits in the Resource Leveling page of the Task Properties dialog box. For details, see 3.5.
  • 3.2 Automatic Resource Leveling Options

The Manual Resource Leveling functionality levels the resource only when the menu has been selected. If you want, AdeptTracker also can resolve the overallocations automatically at the time you modify the task if you have specified proper options.

In order to specify the Automatic Resource Leveling Options, select the Automatic Resource Leveling Settings from the Tools menu.

  • Level Resource:

  • If the Manually is selected, the automatic resource leveling will be disabled. AdeptTracker will not resolve the overallocations until you select the Tools/Level Resource Manully menu.

The Manually and stably option is similar to the Manually option. The difference is that, if the Manually and stably is selected, AdeptTracker will ignore the As early as possible attribute of task and not promote any task ahead.

If the with Optimization is selected, AdeptTracker will resolve overallocations automatically when any task is modified. All the tasks will be move to the earliest start time. In this mode, AdeptTracker can create a compact plan; however, the task cannot be delayed freely. In some cases, you have to set the Earliest Start Date in the Task Properties dialog box for a task in order to delay it.

If the Simply is selected, AdeptTracker will resolve overallocations automatically when any task is modified. Only the task having an As early as possible attribute will move to the earliest start time. In this mode, a task can be delayed freely, but the duration of project may be not be optimized.

The in Stable order with Optimization option is similar to the with Optimization option. The difference is that, if the in Stable order with Optimization is selected, AdeptTracker will try to keep the order of task unchanged if possible.

The in Stable order option is similar to the simply option. The difference is that, if the in Stable order is selected, AdeptTracker will try to keep the order of task unchanged if possible.

  • The Quickly Level Resource will provide less optimization.
  • If the with Optimization is selected, all the tasks will be moved to the earliest start time. In this mode, AdeptTracker can create a compact plan.

    3.4 Backward Schedule

To use this functionality, select the Backward Schedule from the Tools menu.

The Backward Schedule can ensure the project can be finished at a specified date.

In the Backward Schedule Options dialog box, a new project finish date can be specified when the Set Project End Time is checked. And other options are the same as the Resource Leveling dialog box.
